Did you know there are certain foods that are capable of causing diabetes if consumed too often? While it is true that diabetes is more of a hereditary disease, there are a couple of foods that may put you at a very high risk of developing the disease when consumed too often.
In this article which is in line with a publication on Healthline, let’s have a look at some of the foods that may cause diabetes if consumed too often.
1. Red and processed meats are both linked to type 2 diabetes. This is due to the fact that such things as hot dogs, deli meats, bacon and many other processed types of meat usually contain high levels of nitrites and sodium which are not healthy for the body. Consuming red meats and processed meats less often or moderately won’t cause any risk to your health or raise your risk of diabetes, but constant consumption can cause some health problems INCLUDING DIABETES.
2. Saturated fats and trans fats are also considered unhealthy. The reason is that unhealthy saturated fats tend to increase cholesterol levels which is a high-risk factor for type 2 diabetes. So, if you are the type of person who often consumes foods that contain saturated fats or trans fats, you may have to cut down on them. Some of the foods are fatty meats, butter, full-fat milk and cheese, cream, chocolate, cakes, etcetera.
3. Sugar-sweetened drinks such as sodas, sweet teas and lemonade are also linked to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The fact that these drinks tend to increase weight gain and calorie content of the body leading to insulin resistance in the long run makes them risky to your health. So why not cut down on sugary drinks or stay away from them completely? Eat more fruits and drink lots of water!
