The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has condemned what it described as the attempt by state governments, to take over the role of the regulator of the downstream petroleum operations in the south-east.
The chairman of IPMAN in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu states; Mr Chinedu Anyaso, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Awka, today.
Speaking further, Mr Anyaso stated that the state governments did not have the standardized and approved equipment to measure the accuracy of dispensing machines and lacked the powers to supervise downstream petroleum operations.
He also condemned the invasion of marketers’ outlets by state governments in the guise of enforcing prices and monitoring dispensing machines and stated that the nigerian midstream and downstream petroleum regulatory authority (NMDPRA), remained the only constitutionally empowered body to regulate downstream sector operations and that states were free to work with them if they wished.
