Folklore (stylized in all lowercase) is the upcoming eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, scheduled to be launched on July 24, 2020, by Republic Information. It’s launched eleven months after Swift’s seventh studio album, Lover (2019), and was conceived in isolation in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Folklore is a shocking album, introduced on Swift’s social media hours earlier than its launch.

Folklore was written and recorded in isolation in the course of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Swift said that she “poured all of my whims, desires, fears, and musings into” the album, seeing her collaborate with a few of her “musical heroes”. Aaron Dessner, of the American indie rock band The Nationwide, was isolating and quarantining along with his household when Swift had approached him in late April to write down some songs remotely collectively. Eleven songs have been written with Dessner over the following few months, whereas the remaining have been written with Jack Antonoff, William Bowery, and Bon Iver. Dessner said, “I believed it will take some time for music concepts to return and I had no expectations so far as what we might accomplish remotely”, “However a number of hours after sharing music, my telephone lit up with a voice memo from Taylor of a totally written music—the momentum by no means actually stopped”.[5] He commented: “There are palpable humanity and heat and uncooked emotion in these songs that I hope you will love and take consolation in as a lot as I do”.
