There’s never disappointment from Wale videos and this one is no different. “Sue Me” with Kelly Price doesn’t find Folarin front and center, instead, he flips the script and turns the talk on white people. A dude in the projects (played by Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges), is portrayed with the same disadvantages and racism that black and brown youth receive on the daily and things get interesting as he goes about town looking at all of the billboards and living his life. It’s powerful when the tables are turned, but a strong reminder of what minorities go through every day.
Here’s what Wale had to say about the clip:
“What if you could walk through a day in the life of an average African American young man? What would you see? What would you hear? What would you face? We wanted to redefine the whole narrative and allow everybody to step into these shoes. I’ve never been more proud of a video than what we did here. Kerby really brought this vision to life, and Reebok helped make it a reality. I hope it makes you think a little. While you’re thinking, stay safe and stay home!”
The video ends with someone in jail spreading his message about COVID-19 and how they’re doing prisoners who are at risk of catching it and dying.
