The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) of Ogun State has warned motorists to desist from drunk driving and other traffic offences as the ’ember’ months begin on Friday.

The Owode-Ijako Unit Commander of TRACE, Mrs Temitope Oseni, gave the warning while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ota.

She said the warning had become necessary as it was widely believed that ’ember’ months were characterised by reckless driving by many motorists in a hurry to make profits or meet obligations.

“Most of the road crashes that occur during the ’ember’ months are caused by bad attitudes of drivers,” she said.

The unit commander implored motorists to be patient and cautious.

According to her, drunk driving is not allowed during, before and after ’ember’ months.

Oseni advised motorists to ensure the effective functioning of the steering system, headlights, brake, wipers and tyres for safety.

“We are also appealing to motorists to reduce their speed and obey all traffic rules to avoid mishaps,” she said.

She also cautioned against indiscriminate parking to prevent accidents.
