Brockhampton – I.F.L

Brockhampton takes it back to the underground on their third new single “I.F.L”

Brockhampton has returned in full force, coming through with a three-pack of new singles: “Downside,” “Baby Bull,” and the underground hip-hop-inspired “I.FL.” For those who appreciate Brockhampton on their rap tip, this track should satiate more than a few cravings. For one, the production is delightfully grimy, a melancholic piano sample that conjures up dark vibes.

Off the bat, Matt Champion fires off a strong opening verse, showing off plenty of imagination in his climactic bars. “And if I ever die young have Larry David do the eulogy,” he raps. “And film it on one of those little camcorders where you can barely see, and hire someone to throw up all in my jewelry.” Unfortunately, Champion is the only member willing to spit some bars over the instrumental, with fellow contributor Kevin Abstract holding it down for the melodic chorus; alas, it might have been nice to hear him flex the flow, but there’s always next time.

Check it out for yourself now, and sound off — is this a direction you’d like to see Brockhampton explore further?
