One of the most anticipated performances of tonight’s BET Awards was the DMX tribute.
The LOX, Griselda, Busta Rhymes and more paid a wonderful tribute to the late rapper, performing a medley of the Ruff Ryders superstar’s biggest hits. Method Man kicked off the tribute, performing an a cappella version of DMX’s breakout single ‘Get at Me Dog’. The Wu-Tang Clan rapper then made way for the Griselda crew, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher and Conway The Machine, who performed their X collab ‘Hood Blues’ from his posthumous album EXODUS, and then a chorus of X’s ‘Where the Hood At?’
Actor Michael K. Williams then appeared in DMX aura and introduced Swizz Beatz and the LOX who did the remix version of DMX’s classic song ‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’. Finally, Busta Rhymes took over and led a rendition of the rapper’s first Hot 100 hit, ‘Party Up (Up in Here)’.
The performance ended with a portion from The Great Depression interlude ‘The Prayer IV’. Watch it below. X passed away in April at the age of 50 unexpectedly after a reported overdose which led to multiple organ failure.
